• The business model
• How the organization will align (think four dimensions)
• Organizational guiding principles
• Strategic plans (what is the course of action and how will resources be allocated)
• What the organization will NOT do

Digital strategy: a business strategy that is based all or in part on using digital technology to achieve its goals and purpose

• Not about what technologies will be use or introduced
• It is a business strategy based on emerging technology

Understands:

• Technology is changing and it’s changing the environment
• If a response is necessary or if current operations is sufficient
• Opportunity identification within digital world
• Risks associated with each opportunity
• Create a plan that exploits the opportunities and mitigates risks

IT strategy understands:

• How the IT department in an organization supports the business goals of the organization
• Which technology will be used to perform business operations
• How to utilize the technology envisioned in the digital strategy
• How to move to technology that supports the organization’s objectives
• The nature and role of technology suppliers

It’s not:

• The back office strategy around the data center and infrastructure
• An element that supports the digital strategy with architecture
• A component of the digital strategy (digital technology includes IT)
